Overview

â„šī¸
NGC 6994 is a sparse, very loose object of very low C3 quality. Its parallax locates it at a moderate* distance, well below the mid-plane, affected by low extinction. It is catalogued as an old cluster (see Parameters). It is rarely studied in the literature, with no articles listed in the last 20 years.

(*): The parallax distance estimate (~3.95 kpc) differs significantly from the median photometric distance (~0.62 kpc).

âš ī¸ Warning: the low UTI value and no obvious signs of duplication (Cdup=1.0) indicate that this is quite probably an asterism, moving group, or artifact, and not a real open cluster.

Close Low extinction Old

Cantat-Gaudin et al. (2020)
Extensively studied; modern astrometry and radial velocities conclusively show it is an asterism. More details in Appendix A of the article.

Dias et al. (2002)
Asterism (Odenkirchen, M.; Soubiran, C. 2002, A&A 383, 163; Pavani, D.; Bica, E. 2007, A&A 468, 139)
