Overview

NGC 2516 is a very rich, very dense object of very high C3 quality. Its parallax locates it at a very close distance, below the mid-plane, affected by low extinction. It is catalogued as a near-solar metallicity, intermediate-age cluster, but with a large variance across recent sources for the age and mass parameters (see Parameters). It is very well-studied in the literature.

This cluster was include in (Dias et al., 2002A&A...389..871D, Cat. B/ocl) however, parameters log(t)=8.40, Av=0.220, [Fe/H]=0.00 were taken from Bossini et al. (2019A&A...623A.108B, Cat. J/A+A/623/A108). Ahumada & Lapasset (2007A&A...463..789A, Cat. J/A+A/463/789) cite star DR2 5290767631226220032=HD 66194 -- Be Star as a blue straggler, the same star is include in our catalogue.

Ahumada & Lapasset (2007)
Adopted cluster centre: star d in (1955ApJ...121..628C). Star A = HD 66194 = V374 Carinae has a membership probability of 99% (1978, Sydney Obs.Pap., No.81), and a spectrum B2Vne/B3ne (1973A&AS....9..233F). This star is cited as a blue straggler in (1982A&A...109...37M) and (1983A&AS...53..419V), and is considered to be an analogue of the straggler Theta Carinae in IC 2602 by (1981ApJ...246..817E) and (1979PASP...91..442W). According to (2003A&A...404..365G), both components of this binary are main-sequence stars, and would experience mass transfer before abandoning this stage.
