NGC 2220 is a poorly populated, very loose object of low C3 quality. Its parallax locates it at a close* distance, below the mid-plane, affected by low extinction. It is catalogued as an old cluster (see Parameters). It is poorly studied in the literature.

(*): The parallax distance estimate (~0.51 kpc) differs significantly from the median photometric distance (~1.17 kpc).

Relatively close Low extinction Old

Hunt & Reffert (2024)
Classified as a moving group.

Cantat-Gaudin et al. (2020)
Described as poor and scattered; flagged as non-existent in the Revised NGC. Included in some catalogues but generally regarded as a remnant candidate. More details in Appendix A of the article.
