Overview

ℹ️
NGC 2158 is a very rich, very dense object of very high C3 quality. Its parallax locates it at a moderate distance, above the mid-plane, affected by moderate extinction. It is catalogued as an extremely massive, near-solar metallicity, old cluster, but with a large variance across recent sources for the metallicity and mass parameters (see Parameters). It is very well-studied in the literature.

Note: This object contains blue stragglers according to at least one source.

Note: This object shares a very small percentage of members with a later reported entry. See table with shared members information.

Cavallo et al. (2024)
Gold sample.

Hunt & Reffert (2024)
Classified as open cluster. CMD class: 0.99 (50th percentile).

Rain et al. (2024)
Several BSS candidates lie blueward of the ZAMS, possibly due to misclassification or photometric errors. Excluding these, the remaining BSSs and the YSS are well matched by binary evolutionary tracks.

Rain et al. (2021)
The red limit of the straggler area is BP-RP=1.00. Best fit with log(t)=9.25, Av=1.3 and solar metallicity. This object probably suffers from differential reddening. We suggest exploring this effect in future works.

Ahumada & Lapasset (2007)
The apparent cluster diameter was taken from (1970PDDO....4....1H). Only stars inside a radius of 3' were considered. Some membership probabilities from (1997AN....318..253K): star 3, 73%, star 14, 32%, star 25, 43%, star 414, 86%. Star 117 (=3347) has a 6% and star 228 (=3142) is not a cluster member (1997AN....318..253K).
