Overview

â„šī¸
NGC 1641 is a sparse, very loose object of intermediate C3 quality. Its parallax locates it at a very large* distance, well below the mid-plane, affected by low extinction. It is catalogued as an old cluster (see Parameters). It is rarely studied in the literature, with no articles listed in the last 9 years.

(*): The parallax distance estimate (~91.74 kpc) differs significantly from the median photometric distance (~1.41 kpc).

âš ī¸ Warning: the low UTI value and no obvious signs of duplication (Cdup=1.0) indicate that this is quite probably an asterism, moving group, or artifact, and not a real open cluster.

Relatively close Low extinction Old

Cantat-Gaudin et al. (2020)
Originally associated with the LMC; later considered a Milky Way open cluster remnant. Sparse CMD and uncertain parameters; listed as a remnant in recent catalogues. More details in Appendix A of the article.
