Overview

ℹ️
IC 4651 is a very rich, very dense object of very high C3 quality. Its parallax locates it at a close distance, below the mid-plane, affected by low extinction. It is catalogued as a massive, near-solar metallicity, old cluster, but with a large variance across recent sources for the distance, absorption, age, metallicity, and mass parameters (see Parameters). It is very well-studied in the literature.

Note: This object contains blue stragglers according to at least one source.

Note: This object shares a very small percentage of members with a later reported entry. See table with shared members information.

Almeida et al. (2025)
Mass determination: good fit. Isochrone match: good fit.

Cavallo et al. (2024)
Gold sample.

Hunt & Reffert (2024)
Classified as open cluster. CMD classes: 1.00 (50th percentile), true positive (human-assigned).

Ahumada & Lapasset (2007)
The colour-magnitude diagrams in (1988AJ.....95.1453A) and (1971ApJ...166...87E) were examined. In the CCD photometric study (1988AJ.....95.1453A) stars 9 and 46 are considered as probable binaries; the presence of many binaries in the turn- off area is also suggested. Stars 9, 40, 46, and 75 are cited as blue stragglers in (1971ApJ...166...87E). Star 46 has a spectrum A5IV, and stars 9 and 75 are non-members according to (1972A&AS....7..231L). Membership probabilities based on radial velocities (2002A&A...386..187M): star 11, 23%, star 75, 61%. The DDO photometry of the cluster giants (1982AJ.....87..360S) finds CN overabundance in the stragglers, and draws attention to the possible relation between this fact and the blue straggler phenomenon. Other clusters with blue stragglers and CN-strong giants (1982AJ.....87..360S): Melotte 66, NGC 2204, NGC 2420, NGC 2682, and NGC 7789. According to (1998A&A...335..517B), star 46 is an X-ray source, a probable cluster member, and a probable binary.
