FSR 0251 is a poorly populated, very dense object of intermediate C3 quality. Its parallax locates it at a relatively close* distance, near the mid-plane, affected by high extinction. It is catalogued as a near-solar metallicity, intermediate-age cluster (see Parameters). It is moderately studied in the literature.

(*): The parallax distance estimate (~1.60 kpc) differs significantly from the median photometric distance (~0.86 kpc).
